ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center is beefing up security after a break-in and vandalism.
Surveillance cameras and motion detectors are part of a plan to improve security for the safety of visitors and employees, according to a news release.
Bradbury-Sullivan officials said vandals struck the Allentown center on the ground and main floors, and cash from a donation box was stolen.
It happened between June 6 and June 7 while the center was closed. Allentown police are investigating.
Officials said the damage was minimal and did not significantly affect operations. No one was harmed since no staff members were there at the time, they said.
"This was a despicable violation of our space and our trust," said Bill McGlinn, interim executive director. "The LGBTQ+ community continues to face attacks, especially during Pride Month (in June). We remain committed to the safety and security of all who come to the center."
Police Capt. Kyle Pammer said the investigation remains open as a burglary and detectives are working on the case.
