EASTON, Pa. — A 47-year-old Bethlehem woman was sentenced to 21 to 120 months in state prison Wednesday for causing her 2-year-old son’s fentanyl-related death.

Nicole Ann Stauffer, of the 2000 block of Stefko Boulevard, pleaded guilty in August to involuntary manslaughter.

The child died after being found unresponsive July 5, 2022, at Stauffer’s home. Police and medical staff performed life-saving efforts but could not resuscitate the child.

A state police analysis determined fentanyl was contained in an uncapped syringe in the main bedroom where the child had been sleeping, according to the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office.

A forensic pathologist ruled the child’s cause of death was fentanyl toxicity.

District Attorney Stephen Baratta said a search of the home recovered various drug materials and paraphernalia, including uncapped syringes and glassine containers.
