BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Two men were taken to a hospital with burns after Bethlehem police and firefighters responded to a column of smoke seen over the Lehigh River early Thursday coming from near the Fahy Bridge, authorities said.

A release from Bethlehem Police Department states that responders found an active fire in the area of New and West Lehigh streets at 7 a.m.

Police said two adult men were found with burns to their arms and hands, and that they were taken to an area hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Officials said the fire appears to have started inside a tent on a foot path under the bridge.
It was extinguished by firefighters and the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, officials said.
Multiple shelters appeared have been destroyed as the result of fire, along with other property present at the site, which has visible burn damage.
No persons near the site were available for comment.
Around 12:30 p.m., two Bethlehem police officers sifted through bedding, cookware, and other shelter amenities destroyed by the blaze but not would not comment further on the investigation.
