Bethlehem police seek witnesses as man seriously hurt in Route 412 shooting

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Police are seeking witnesses after they found a gunshot victim in a crashed vehicle early Monday on Route 412.

Police received a call at 4:09 a.m. of a single-vehicle crash on Hellertown Road (Route 412) not far from the Hellertown line.

Officers who arrived found a man inside the car with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a news release.

The southbound side of Route 412 was closed to traffic for several hours, between Silvex Road and Cherry Lane, according to police. It was reopened around 9 a.m.

Police early on and later in the day Monday said they are not actively searching for anyone in connection with the shooting. They said there is no danger to the public.

Because of the ongoing nature of the investigation, police said, no additional details would be released.
