EASTON, Pa. - Affordable housing efforts in the Lehigh Valley will see a nearly $2 million influx of capital from the state as part of a $48-million round of funding announced by Gov. Tom Wolf this week.
The money will support hundreds of housing and development projects across the state.
Locally, Northampton County will receive money for a lead hazard reduction program and to support affordable housing at the still-under-development Dutchtown Commons in Easton.
In Lehigh County, a number of initiatives will receive funding, including a program to keep teens from becoming homeless after aging out of foster care as well as an eviction defense program operated by the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
The governor’s office claims that statewide, these funds will create nearly 450 new affordable housing units and support more than 12,000 households that are in danger of becoming homeless.
