BETHLEHEM, Pa. — ArtsQuest’s Souper Bowl, the annual event in which area restaurants compete for recognition as creating the best bouillons and superior stews, will return for a 14th year, the organization has announced.

In addition, this year’s event will feature a new experience: a Best Thing You Ever Made soup demo with Chef Lee Chizmar, an Allentown native from the restaurant Bolete and Mr. Lee’s Noodles.

The new event will be at 12:45 p.m. Feb. 4 at SteelStacks, with the rest of Souper Bowl set to run noon-3:30 p.m.

Chizmar is a nominee for both Best Chef and Outstanding Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation, a New York city-based national non-profit culinary arts organization, will demonstrate how he creates Cauliflower soup.

Chizmar’s dish was featured on an episode of Food Network’s “Best Thing I Ever Ate.”
The demonstration, which will last about 45 minutes, cost $22.50 for ArtsQuest members and $25 for the public.

Tickets for the 14th Annual Souper Bowl are $15 for ages 3-12 (limited quantity available; ages 2 and young don’t require tickets), $30 for adults and $60 for premium tickets, which allow an hour early admission plus a drink ticket for any Yuengling beer, Franklin Hills wine or soft drink, plus a special Pennsylvania-only raffle for ArtsQuest tickets.

At least 10 soup-makers compete

At Souper Bowl, restaurants and caterers from throughout the region will compete in the categories of cream-based, meat-based, most Unique, seafood-based, vegan and people’s choice.
