HARRISBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania’s liquor control board is ramping up operations to try and meet the demand for online orders. Additional workers will be returning to more than 100 shuttered stores to help process internet purchases.
Retail state stores closed several weeks ago as part of social distancing orders.
Speaking on a call with reporters this afternoon, Gov. Tom Wolf said the system has been stretched beyond capacity - but said the control board is working to speed fulfilment.
“The hope is that it gets us to a place where we can keep our employees and the customers safe but also meet the demand of customers for the products that are only found in state stores,” said Wolf.
Retail stores will not be reopening for in-person sales at this time. Liquor store closings have been a source of widespread complaints, especially since the liquor board controls the overwhelming majority of hard alcohol sales.
