NORTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Graduating students from Lehigh Carbon Community College have an additional option for continuing their higher education.

The college this week announced that it has signed an agreement with Drexel University.

The agreement between the two institutions is designed for eligible graduates of programs with undergraduate equivalents at Drexel.

"We have always had students transferring to Drexel," said Linda Baker, executive director of college relations for LCCC.

"This now provides a dual admissions opportunity and clear credit equivalencies. Many students are interested in engineering programs at Drexel."

Engineering students from LCCC will be able to enter any of the 10 Drexel Engineering programs. Any LCCC graduate with an associate degree can enter the Drexel General Studies program.

Students must apply to Drexel within one year of graduating from LCCC to qualify for the agreement.

Drexel approached LCCC about opening up program-to-program opportunities, officials said.

Students have always been interested in continuing their degree at Drexel, but this gives students "a pathway to start locally to figure out their interests and continue in many possible prestigious engineering programs," Baker said.

In addition, the Drexel Promise scholarship, which began in fall 2023, offers a 50% tuition scholarship at Drexel to eligible community college graduates.

"The Drexel Promise is also a great opportunity," said Baker.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be enrolled full-time at Drexel, take courses on-campus and maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for a maximum of 12 academic quarters.
