BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bethlehem Area School District clerical and secretarial employees announced Sunday night they will go on strike Monday.

In a social media post, the school district delivered an "update" to the situation, saying an agreement could not be reached.

"Despite long negotiation sessions this weekend among the Bethlehem Area School District, the Teamster Local 773 Clerical and Secretarial Employees, and the state-appointed mediator, a contract agreement was not reached," a social media post reads.

Monday is also the first day of school for the district.

"School will go on as planned. Negotiations will continue in pursuit of a fair agreement."

"School will go on as planned," the update says. "Negotiations will continue in pursuit of a fair agreement."

An alert also greets visitors to the BASD webpage, welcoming incoming students and families to the new school year as well as an update to the negotiations.

The update on the school district's website says the same content as its social media posts.

Teamsters Local 773 asked its members to show support for the strike.

"Pickets will be up at every school and administration building tomorrow morning until we reach an agreement that treats our members with dignity and respect for the job they do day in and day out!" the union said on its social media.
