BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. — Township commissioners on Monday approved plans for a new three-story, 19,580-square-foot field house for the Notre Dame High School campus.

Commissioner Michael Hudak was absent.

An existing one-story annex building, which is set to come down, will provide a footprint for the new facility and more space for recreation and classrooms.

It will join the campus’ other buildings by crosswalk — including a revamped auditorium with seating for 600.

School Principal Jaclyn Friel told LehighValleyNews.com on Monday that more information would come later regarding project demolition and construction.

“Ninety percent of our students are student-athletes, but 100 percent of our students are going to benefit from the new building.”

She said enrollment is up and the future is bright for the Crusaders of 3417 Church Road.

In March, Friel told the township Planning Commission that, “Ninety percent of our students are student-athletes, but 100 percent of our students are going to benefit from the new building.”

Planners gave their approval later that meeting.

According to project drawings, the all-new building wouldn't result in an increased need for off-street parking.

The plans were drawn up by Keystone Consulting Engineers of Bethlehem.

They're available for review at the Bethlehem Township Municipal Building, 4225 Easton Ave.
