EASTON, Pa. — Northampton County and Community Action Lehigh Valley will get a $1.2 million federal grant to support an affordable housing project at the former site of the Glendon Hotel in Glendon, it was announced Monday.
Almost all of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Home Investment Partnership Program grant — about $1.14 million — will fund “new construction of single-family affordable housing,” Northampton County spokeswoman Brittney Waylen wrote in an email.

The remaining $80,000 will help cover operating costs for Community Action Lehigh Valley, a Bethlehem-based antipoverty nonprofit and the county’s partner in the Glendon Hotel project.
“It is increasingly difficult for middle- to lower-income workers to buy or rent housing in their work areas,” County Executive Lamont McCLure wrote in a statement, in part because of limited supply.
“This funding will support housing options for working people who need it most.”
County officials plan to build five townhomes on the now-vacant lot, each with three bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms, the release said.
The Glendon Hotel, built around 1740, was demolished in 2021 after years of neglect and decay.
