SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - The Lehigh Valley’s air quality has improved a little over the past year.
The American Lung Association released its annual State of the Air report just in time for Earth Day and it looks for the two most widespread pollutants that affect health are fine particle pollution and ozone, often thought of as “smog.”
Kevin Stewart, director of environmental health with the Lung Association, said the Lehigh Valley Ozone grade has improved, up from a D rating in 2021.
“We know that over the past few years, air quality has certainly been improving. The air was better, got a C grade, which was equal to the best ever that we had recorded back in the 2017 report,” Stewart said.
However, Stewart said the daily measure of particle pollution did not change and received a C grade once again.
People can take small steps to reduce air pollution, like not burning leaves or trash outdoors, Stewart said
