Allentown man charged in 2022 slaying on city street

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — An Allentown man has been arrested in the 2022 shooting death of a man on a city street, authorities announced Wednesday.

Steven M. Rosa, 30, was charged with homicide in the July 28, 2022, killing of Tywon Deleva Abner, 33, of Allentown just after 11 p.m. in the 500 block of West Allen Street.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan and Allentown Police Chief Charles Roca announced the charges.

Steven M. Rosa will face a preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. June 11.

Rosa is in Lehigh County Jail on unrelated charges and was not assigned bail on the new charges because of the homicide count, Holihan said.

Rosa also was charged with Person Not to Possess a Firearm due to a prior Robbery conviction, also a first-degree felony, and carrying a firearm without a license, which because of a prior conviction is a third-degree felony.

Rosa’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. June 11.

Details of case

Authorities said police responded to reports of a shooting and found Abner with a gunshot wound. Police and paramedics administered emergency aid, but Abner died at the hospital.

The Lehigh County coroner ruled that Rosa died from a gunshot wound to the chest and his death was a homicide.

This case was investigated by Lehigh County’s 12th Investigating Grand Jury, Lehigh County Homicide Task Force Detective Kevin Mriss and Allentown Police Detective Miguel Villa.

A grand jury heard testimony presented by Chief Deputy District Attorney Bethany S. Zampogna and Senior Deputy District Attorney Gregory R. Englert, Holihan said in his release.

The investigation was also assisted by the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Center.

The grand jury's presentment was approved by Judge Douglas G. Reichley, and then sealed.

Holihan said no further facts about the case can be released.
