ALLENTOWN, Pa. — An Allentown man could serve up to six decades in prison after he was convicted in August of attempted homicide for shooting at a city police officer.
Carmelo Javier Cruz, 25, was sentenced Thursday to 30-60 years in prison, the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office said Friday in a news release.
Cruz was convicted in August of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and assault of a law enforcement officer, court records show.
Cruz fired multiple shots at Allentown police officer Cody Mullins early Jan. 17, 2021, while Mullins was speaking to people inside a double-parked vehicle in the 500 block of North Lumber Street, authorities said.
A bullet hit that vehicle, but no one was injured, the release states.
Police found several shell casings about a half-block away from where Mullins was standing, according to prosecutors.
