BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Bethlehem’s former mayor is going back to work.

Bob Donchez, whose eight-year tenure as mayor ended at the start of the year, will be Northampton County's new deputy director of human resources.

County Executive Lamont McClure announced Donchez's hiring today in a news release; he will be paid an annual salary of about $80,000, according to a county spokesperson.

McClure, a Democrat like Donchez, said the former mayor's experience overseeing nearly 600 employees makes him the qualified candidate to help serve what he calls “one of the largest workforces” in the Lehigh Valley.

Donchez, 71, a retired teacher who also served as a longtime Bethlehem councilman, is slated to begin the job Jan. 18.
