ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A gunman who wounded two people last year during a night of violence in the city that included three separate shootings was sentenced to state prison this week.

A Lehigh County judge sentenced 24-year-old Dimitrius Bashir Campbell, of Allentown, to 15 to 30 years in prison.

In October, Campbell pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit homicide stemming from an attack on two people in the 300 block of Ridge Avenue on Dec. 29, 2023.

Police said he shot a man and a woman who suffered serious wounds but survived.

Authorities were called to Ridge Avenue as they investigated the fatal shooting of a 1-year-old boy and his grandmother in their home in the 100 block of Chestnut Street, about four blocks away. Hours later another shooting occurred, with three people hit, in the 1600 block of Hanover Avenue.

None of the shooting incidents were related but the flurry of gun crimes shook the city.

As police investigated the Ridge Avenue shooting, they said they found Campbell hiding in a yard with a gun nearby and arrested him.

Campbell and another man had been seen running from the area at the time of the shooting but the other person has not been charged, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.

Judge Robert Steinberg sentenced Campbell in Lehigh County Court during a hearing Monday, the district attorney’s office said.

In a news release, District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan described Campbell as a gang member but didn’t elaborate on the gang or its connection to the shooting. He said the investigation revealed Campbell shot both victims.

The case was investigated by Allentown police Det. Samson Wega and the James B. Martin Regional Intelligence and Investigation Center. It was prosecuted by Bethany Zampogna, Holihan said.
