CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Beginning this fall, Penn State University’s Center Valley campus will offer a bachelor of science degree in cybersecurity analytics and operations. The new program comes as companies look to hire more cybersecurity professionals.

Kermit Burley will lead the program at PSU-LV.

“What we’re trying to do now is stay ahead of the curve because the demand is there. Especially in this pandemic environment, there’s a huge need for people to keep the bad guys out - things like phishing and ransomware are on the increase,” said Burley.

Recent data from the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center shows that ransomware, phishing and malware reports increased nearly 400 percent since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic; receiving as many as 4,000 complaints per day.

With more employees teleworking during the ongoing health crisis, PSU-LV says cybersecurity has become a priority for many companies.
