EASTON, Pa. – John Derwin Bradley, the 17-year-old charged with killing a North Catasauqua mother and her teenage daughter, appeared in court Thursday to waive his right to a preliminary hearing.
Prosecutors say Bradley killed 16-year-old Rianna Lynn Glass, his ex-girlfriend, and Rosalyn Siobal Glass, her 39-year-old mother, at their North Catasauqua home in September.
Bradley, in a red prison jumpsuit and with long ragged hair, didn’t say a word during proceedings before Magisterial District Judge Robert Hawke Thursday, which lasted only a few minutes.
More than a dozen friends and family members of Rianna and Rosalyn Glass filled the courtroom gallery, wearing matching white shirts imprinted with a photo of the two together.
The prosecutor overseeing the case, Chief Deputy District Attorney William Blake, said that he reached a deal to share evidence with Bradley’s public defenders earlier than the law requires in exchange for waiving Thursday’s hearing.
Blake said the deal allowed them to spare the victims’ friends and family in the gallery from watching the attorneys work through gruesome evidence in the case.
Bradley is next scheduled to go before a judge in January for a formal arraignment.
