ALLENTOWN, Pa. — City police will begin shutting down roads in Center City on Monday night in anticipation of former President Donald Trump's rally at the PPL Center on Tuesday.

City spokeswoman Genesis Ortega said residents need to plan ahead when trying to navigate around the area Tuesday.

Large crowds, foot traffic and a major media presence are expected around the arena at Seventh and Hamilton streets as Trump makes his second visit to the Lehigh Valley this year.

Local, state and federal law enforcement will have a larger presence as a result.

Starting at 5 p.m. Monday, Seventh Street will be closed from Linden to Walnut streets. Hamilton Street will also close from Sixth to Eighth streets.

Starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, closures will expand to the following:

  • Seventh Street closure will be between Turner and Walnut streets
  • Eighth Street will close between Turner and Walnut streets
  • Hamilton Street will close between Sixth and Ninth streets
  • Linden Street will close between Sixth and Ninth streets

Traffic will be directed to detours along Turner, Walnut, Sixth and Ninth streets during the closures.

Parking will not be available on Linden Street between American Parkway and Ninth Street, Allentown officials said.

Pennsylvania State Police have said American Parkway will be closed intermittently Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. City officials said there will be other parking restrictions around the PPL Center but did not provide further detail.

On Monday, the Allentown School District announced all schools will be closed Tuesday.
