BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Brad Klein reviews the week’s astronomical highlights with Bethlehem’s "Backyard Astronomy Guy," Marty McGuire.
This month… it’s all about Orion, one of the most visible and easily identifiable constellations in the winter sky.
Orion is on the rise in the Southeastern sky after sunset for the entire month of February, moving west as the evening goes on.
McGuire said that it’s easiest to find by looking for three stars in a row, which comprise Orion’s belt.
Four bright stars above and below are the shoulders and knees of the mythological hunter.
And if you create an imaginary line, from right to left, you’ll come to the brightest star in the night sky,
Sirius the dog star, in the constellation Canis Major.
All of the individual stars in Orion are of interest, and Brad and Marty will review some of the highlights in the next three episodes of Watching the Skies.
