EASTON, Pa. - The Northampton County Human Services Department is planning to add another team to its suicide prevention program.
A new loss prevention program aims to offer resources to families at higher risk of suicide.
Sue Wandalowski, Northampton County's director of Human Services, said the need to expand the program.
“If you have a family member who has died by suicide, especially in the close timeframe, afterward, you're at higher risk for suicide. So our goal is to intervene immediately and try to help support the families as best as possible,” Wandalowski said.
The team is made up of human services professionals, as well as people who have lost a loved one to suicide.
The local outreach group is part of the county’s suicide prevention task force formed in 2018.
Wandalowski said training is set for June and the goal is to have the first team in the state out supporting families this summer.
