School board candidate forums to be broadcast on PBS39

The League of Women Voters of Lehigh County will moderate and run the forums in partnership with Lehigh Valley Public Media. Participating will be school board candidates from Allentown, Parkland, East Penn and Southern Lehigh school districts.

The League of Women Voters of Lehigh County will moderate and run the forums, held before studio audiences at the Univest Public Media Center on the SteelStacks campus in Bethlehem.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The League of Women Voters of Lehigh County will present four school board candidate forums in partnership with Lehigh Valley Public Media.

The League of Women Voters will organize and run the forums. Lehigh Valley Public Media will be host for them, livestream them and broadcast them on PBS39.

The free hourlong forums, moderated by the League of Women Voters, will be held before studio audiences in the Univest Public Media Center on the SteelStacks campus in Bethlehem.

Tickets are free but registration is required. You can reserve a seat by registering at this link.

The forums are set for 7 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Monday, Sept. 29: Allentown School Board
  • Tuesday, Sept. 30: East Penn School Board
  • Monday, Oct. 6: Parkland School Board
  • Tuesday, Oct. 7: Southern Lehigh School Board

The primary election is Tuesday, Nov. 4.

All candidates whose names will appear on the ballot in their respective school board races have been invited to participate.

Candidates will provide opening and closing statements.

They will be given equal time to answer questions and address issues posed by the moderator, by student representatives selected by the league, and from written audience questions screened by the forum organizers.

Broadcasts, other debates

Each forum will be streamed live on the PBS39 YouTube channel as well as on LehighValleyNews.com.

Broadcast dates onPBS39 include:

  • Allentown School Board — 6 p.m. Thursday Oct. 2, and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7;
  • East Penn School Board — 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14;
  • Parkland School Board — 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21;
  • Southern Lehigh School Board — 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Lehigh Valley Public Media also will hold a debate between Lehigh County executive candidates Josh Siegel and Roger MacLean.

That is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Univest Public Media Center and will be broadcast live on PBS39.
