Emergency radio dispatches indicated the fire had escalated to a sixth alarm by shortly before 10 p.m., less than 90 minutes after it was first reported.

“We need to be focused on this November,” DePasquale said. “We’ve got to focus on winning this November for the governor, flipping the state Senate and expanding our House majority.”
The Hooper House has been unoccupied for decades, and the city deemed it blighted in 2012. Officials are now trying to preserve the property, which once belonged to Continental Army Deputy Quartermaster General Robert Lettis Hooper, Jr.
