ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Rivers Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting residents displaced by a multi-alarm fire in the city.

The blaze broke out in the 700 block of North Seventh Street on Tuesday afternoon and tore through multiple homes, displacing dozens of residents.

The emergency shelter is located at the Allentown YMCA at 425 15th St. and providing affected residents with food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support and other assistance, said Regional Communications Manager Cristina Maisel.

"We had five people stay overnight. Last update we have four, but expect those displaced to come through for various services because we had a large number of people affected," Maisel said Wednesday morning.

The shelter is open to everyone in need following the disaster, with all assistance free.

Anyone in need of assistance can also call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
